When I first met with Jenny and Ivan, I connected with them immediately ( and bonus - they were also friends of Brittaney and Jamie—have we mentioned how much we love those two yet?!) Jenny was pregnant, and I had just had my own tiny person, so we ended up babbling together about how awesome a baby is for some time.
While we talked, I learned that Ivan had originally planned to propose to Jenny on a hot air balloon ride, but after they discovered she was pregnant, obviously, they had to put that plan on hold. “But that was such a good idea!” I cried out, and then I added, “We can totally reenact how it was SUPPOSED to happen after you have the baby.” I suggested doing an engagement session on the balloons as soon as Jenny was ready to hop on a balloon after the baby, and they seemed to like the idea.
Fast forward a few months, to when handsome little Dean was born. Mama Jenny and Dad Ivan discovered the amazing feeling of parenthood, and they were now looking ahead to getting married as well.
Then, I got a phone call from Jenny, who told me: “The wedding is becoming too complicated. I think we want to elope.”
Of course, I was THRILLED! If I could spend all my days capturing elopements, I absolutely would! The pure love and joy that's buzzing in the air during an elopement always sparkles on the camera, and the stress is completely out of the window, since we take out all of the variables of venues, caterers, and people in general.
And so, one beautiful Sunday morning in May, we rose before the sun for the special day. Jenny had her hair and makeup done by Lauren Walsh, but then I was able to catch the bride and groom giggling like high school students as they slipped their rings on in the van and dressed each other in a field—modesty be damned.
We took photos on, around, and in the balloons and also provided them with a GoPro so they could get some interesting shots in the privacy of their own camera while we captured them floating in the air. We traipsed around fields, popped bubbles of champs, and even tried to hitch-hike with the bride (don't worry, we got a ride from Painted Horizons back to our vehicles).
Congratulations, Jenny & Ivan, on your gorgeous elopement! We were honored to be a part of your amazing day.
