Vinoy Wedding in St Petersburg, Florida | Morgan and Edward

Anyone who has ever stepped foot in the downtown area of St. Petersburg, Florida, has seen the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club; the exquisite coral colored resort flush with foxtail ferns and green accents right on the cusp of the bay is nearly impossible to miss. On Saturday, after two years of planning, Morgan and Edward celebrated a beautiful wedding at the resort (with the ceremony at nearby St. Raphael Catholic Church) with family and friends and we were lucky enough to capture it all!

We’ve had a chance to get to know Morgan and Edward during the course of the last two years – from the initial consultation to a fun-filled evening capturing their engagement all around the eclectic St. Pete Murals, there was a constant ease between the two of them, a continual sense of pure happiness. The two had met at a Tampa Bay Lightning game (go Bolts!) a few years prior, and though they have conflicting stories on who made the first move, it was a connection at first sight that has only grown stronger over time. Fast forward to this past weekend, and it was finally time for their wedding at the Vinoy Renaissance Resort; the sun was shining; the weather was literally perfect after WEEKS of crap weather! We arrived to find Morgan happy and calm, the picture of the perfect bride. The funky art-deco vibes of the Vinoy decor made for awesome color pops for detail shots (like hanging that Maggie Sottero gown on the keylime green balcony door).

For Morgan’s “something old”, she incorporated a family heirloom: her grandmother’s original Swedish crown that she wore on her own wedding day; Morgan honored her family’s roots by wrapping the crown around her bouquet and keeping it close to her all day. If that wasn’t already touching enough, she also wrote Edward 365 love notes (one to open daily for an entire year!) for his groom’s present!

Edward is just one of those people that everyone likes literally immediately. Besides a great sense of humor (his speech to his guests at the reception had us tearing up with laughter!), Edward also has a sincere quality of compassion and caring that is evident both by the way he looks at Morgan and how he interacts with everyone around him. It’s safe to say the world is a better place for having people like Edward in it. He was as sharp as ever on the wedding day with a crisp custom made navy suit and maroon bowtie that matched the bridesmaids dresses perfectly.

The lovebirds chose to keep the wedding day traditional with no first look and a Catholic ceremony, and with a stunning venue like St. Raphael Catholic Church (who also kindly allowed us to roam all over during the ceremony – with some restrictions of course), it was totally worth the wait to get them in front of the camera.

After the ceremony (and family portraits), we had a little bit of time to goof off with the formal party and get in touch with our slightly nerdier sides when we had the bride raise and choke the groomsmen.

For the bride and groom portraits, we wandered all around the outside of the Resort and nearby Marina and captured the most incredible sherbet colored sunset behind the elegant St. Pete cityscape.

And… if you’ve ever wondered about what life is like as a second shooter on my team (and possibly had some romantic notions about the creative aspects), here’s a prime example of the ridiculous things that I put Makenzie through in order to get “the shot”, hahaha!

Tammy, the owner of The Joy of Weddings paid meticulous attention to detail and brought Morgan and Edward’s whimsical reception to life with stunning earthy centerpieces and shimmery flatware and can we all take a moment to appreciate the MASTERPIECES that are the wedding cakes? I mean, yes, the main one is beautiful but holy cow – the groom’s cake is the Capitol building in Tallahassee! WHAT! A Piece of Cake have simply outdone themselves.

Morgan and Edward’s wedding day at the Vinoy was the perfect one for our last wedding of the year and we could not have been more honored to be a part of it!
